North Baddesley Infant School

Growing together, learning for life

In advance of the January 2022 opening of our new term-time only nursery setting, we are hosting a drop-in session for any parents/carers who are interested in finding out more about our provision. Please feel free to come along to our Nursery building in the school playground on Monday 13th December between 3.30pm and 5pm, where we will be happy to show you around and answer any questions you may have!

Phonics is a reading strategy which teaches children to read by breaking words up into units of sounds (phonemes). Each of these sounds is represented by a letter or group of letters (grapheme). Some phonemes may be represented by more than one grapheme. Some graphemes represent more than one phoneme. It can be very confusing if you didn't learn to read in this way (that's most of us as parents!) Most importantly however, this strategy is proven to quickly get children reading fluently.

The resources below will help you learn more about the phonics scheme Letters and Sounds, which we follow at North Baddesley Infant School, and will help you to support your child when reading at home.

The video below will help you rehearse the individual phonemes so you sound them correctly. This is important to aid spelling of words.

If you have and further questions or feedback on any of these resources please speak to your child's class teacher.
