Our School Dog

Our school dog, Winston, is a key member of our school community. Not only does he nurture our understanding of how to care for and treat animals, he also provides invaluable support to us emotionally and socially.
Winston is fully trained to work with children, particularly those with special educational needs, those who suffer trauma or bereavement and anyone who is upset in any way and needs calm, comfort and space to help them to regulate and talk about their emotions. He also has an important role in improving reading and the confidence and wellbeing of our children.
Winston is gentle and friendly and is, therefore, suitable to work in a school environment. His main place of residence is in the School Office, which is separate from the main school.
Winston is our second school dog. He was born in October 2021 and joined us in school before Christmas the same year. Winston follows in the footsteps of our beloved Monty, who joined our school as a seven week old puppy back in 2012. Monty led the way for schools to have a dog and Winston has certainly learnt from the very best!
When choosing our school dogs, we researched and selected a reputable breeder who his Kennel Club registered and whose animals come from generations of working dogs. In fact, Winston is Monty’s Great Nephew!
